The Other Boleyn Girl (2008)

Rating:
Category:Movies
Genre: Drama
I'm sure you all know what it's like to wait for a movie to come out that you really want to see & then you find out it's a piece of crap? I kinda felt this way about this movie.

I was excited when I heard that one of my favourite books from one of my all time favourite authors was going to be made into a movie. I really enjoyed both of the Elizabeth movies & had hoped this would be of a similar quality.

With the exception of Natalie Portman ( who starred as Anne Boleyn) the rest of the casting was abysmal. Scarlett Johansson (Mary) couldn't act her way out of a paper bag, even with a map and a compass. David Morrissey (the Duke of Norfolk) just couldn't compare in presence or talent to Christopher Eccleston's performance in Elizabeth and they could have substituted Eric Bana (King Henry V111) with a store mannequin and no one would have noticed.

The screenplay was weak. I couldn't wait for this one to end.

If you think I wouldn't recommend buying a copy of this movie then you'd be dead wrong. Yes you should buy it..........and give it to that family member you really don't like this christmas.

  1. I agree. It was on TV during the winter months and I was so bored with it I went to bed with a good book instead.

  3. I prefer to think of it as the gift that keeps on giving! lol

I even watched the movie twice just to make sure that my initial critique wasn't too harsh...now that's dedication for ya :D

  4. Oh I hate it when that happens. I went through it this summer with the horror movie 'Shutter'. Teenagers on Youtube have more talent than anyone involved in the production of that drag! I wouldn't even give that movie to my Mother-In-Law, and believe me she deserves a copy of 'The Other Boleyn Girl'. Hey you just gave me a stocking stuffer idea LOL!

  7. LOL...I love it Angie...You have such a way with saying ...THIS MOVIE SUCKED...LOL...The first time I watched it...I guess I wasn't really paying attention....In fact...i was on the phone and watching it ...so that tells you how well I either paid attention to the movie..or to the phone call...HMMMM...Anyhow...I thought the movie was pretty good....Then I watched it later with some friends because they all wanted to see it as well...I think you are sooooo right when you talked about how poorly Scarlett Johansson did in this movie...She really left something to be desired...Natalie Portman did do a good job with her portrayal and I HATED David Morrissey as well in his character. I was ok with Eric Bana. HES HAWT! You gotta give him credit for that..And he was SOOOO forceful...yet so gentle...LMAO...And his struggle to do what was right...and what his hormones were telling him...MEEEEOOOOOW! I liked Anne and Mary's Mother...She seemed to be downplayed however in the film...Can you imagine being told by a man to leave the room...and then actually have to do it without pop notching him on the head on the way out? UGH...So...Ok...I have seen MUCH MUCH worse Acting...and have to say...that I would watch this movie again..just because I like the storyline..So I am giving it a 3 star rating...I am "middle of the road" on this one...LOL...Have a great Day Angie...

  9. After seeing the Elizabeth movies, and hell even the Tudors series, this move was a thumbs DOWN

  10. Again! I very much agree with you saying this.
This was the thought I realized when the Bourne saga by Robert Ludlum came out...I got disappointed when I saw the movie. The content of the Book had nothing to do with movie nor the movie had nothing about the book...To consider, may be there are points in the book that cannot be reached by the capacity of expression of men behind the movie production and that's the writing prowess of a writer alone.Amazing!

  11. I haven't seen the movie but am dying to read the book! I've learned my lessons on book vs movie and the book always seems better because hollywood has no clue who to cast as the charactors so I'll read the book first and buy the movie later, then re wrap it carefully and re-gift it to someone I don't like too much.

  12. Look for Philippa Gregory.
She has written several brilliant fictional historical novels. http://www.philippagregory.com/

  13. I think the Tudors spoiled this movie for me. Loved that series so it's hard to watch anyone else in the same roles. (Although the guy who played the Duke of Norfolk in the Elizabeth movies did really make that role his own)
