Vampire Vineyards - Merlot

Rating:★★
Category:Other
Now I'm not normally a sucker for marketing, but at this time of the year who could resist trying a wine called "Vampire" made in Transylvania no less?

It was cheap (I think I paid about $10.00 aus for the bottle & I figured at that price if it was swill I could always use it for cooking.) It was a little rough around the edges for a Merlot, but definitely drinkable.

Curious about the vineyard I did a little online research. Turns out the head vampire is Michael Machat, an entertainment attorney based in the US.
Machat started Vampire Vineyards 20 odd years ago and sold his first 500 bottles to rock star, Alice Cooper (go figure!).

You can check out or order online here: Vampire Wines

  1. Hmm my star rating isn't showing up. I gave this 2.5 out of 5. It has a plum bouquet that is rather nice...and just a hint of blood :-p

  2. I readily admit I know little or nothing about wines, but I have always admired Vlad the Impaler in a sadistic sort of way.

  3. I do believe I'm going to order a bottle of the Dracula Syrah and Vampire Chardonnay and of course I have to have some of the vampire chocolate as well :-)

  4. I had a glass last night and found it drinkable at least. Not my fave Merlot, but definately not the worst I have had either. I do love the name and where it is made though. lol

  5. I'm not a red vino drinker, I prefer rose if any or a bubbly white lol, I usually fall asleep after drinking wine and have severe heartburn lol, so tend to stick to my lucozade :)

  9. Hah! Yeah I am.
The thing is Mike, it wasn't even as if the store were promoting this wine actively for halloween. Just happened to notice a few bottles gathering dust on a top shelf in a back corner of the store.

  15. I did used to be a drinker, I was out 5 nights out of 7, and drank quite a bit, but these days I cant be arsed, and I dont like to have a drink at home, dont ask me why but i dont enjoy it. Plus the smoking ban has closed down a lot of pubs etc around my way, so no good ones left.

  16. smoking ban alli? i have to admit i live under a rock these days when it comes to the news world or local. is it similar to our no smoking in bars this side of the pond? my curiosity is bubbling now. and you must try drinking at home maybe you have not found a drink you like. listen to me its a good thing im not an alcoholic counselor lol encouraging someone to drink lol

  17. Yea they have banned smoking in pubs over here, and since then pubs/bars have been going under, plus with the supermarkets charging so little to buy off them its somewhat cheaper to drink at home, I do have the occasional rose wine when the fancy takes me, I really need to start drinking less lucozade, its rotting my teeth like hell, but my local supermarket is doing such a good deal at the moment 6 bottles for £1.76, so until it goes bk to normal price Im still buying it lol

  18. and what is lucozade? is that like a soft drink?

  19. The state of Oklahoma has a law about shipping liquor thru the mail. Needless to say they wont ship to me here *sob* I'm getting my speech all ready for Ralphy when he gets home. They have a place there in Halifax that sells Vampire Vineyard products! Maybe I can sweet talk him into sending me some if'in I send him the money for it...

  20. I haven't checked the local liquor stores to see if they carry Vampire or not. The thing is, in the state of Pennsylvania, liqour outside of ber is sold by the state, so one must venture to a state store to purchase it and are at the whims of the local and state government as to whether it is carried or not. Yes, we are very much 19th centuryb in that regard, but the jobs at the state stores are union, so the chance of that changing any time in the near future are slim and none and slim just left town.

  21. I called a local liquor store and they will order it for me :-)

  22. I'm finding this really interesting. The "land of the free" has totally draconian laws it seems ( to me anyways) in regard to liquor. I know the laws vary but it's not like you are minors trying to get hold of something illegal gawd!

Leslie, I'm glad the store can order it for you...since when did you start drinking wine? did I miss the memo? lol

  23. It's a nasty energy drink.
When I was little it was a drink you brought when you had the flu or a cold, or to replace fluids after vomiting. But they have now joined the trendy "red bull & v" market lol

  24. Well Pennsylvania is hardly the norm as far as liquor sales go, most places you can just buy the stuff at your local grocery store. But here we go back to the days of blue laws and add to that the jobs in state stores are union and you just have an all out mess.

  25. i am not allowed energy drinks anymore. so sad for me.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Now now I wouldnt call it nasty, Red Bull is nasty , I cant stand the smell of that, I drink the orange version of Lucozade, comes in a few flavours, lemon, wild berrie, standard, cherry and orange, its full of Glucose, and thats whats rotting me teeth lol

    ReplyDelete
  27. thats the standard one and I dont like that lol.

    ReplyDelete
  28. haven't you just been to the dentist? lol

    ReplyDelete
  29. or maybe alli. the energy speeds up the aging process. and it makes it so you lose your teeth sooner than if you were to just not drink them. its my own little conspiracy theory lol i have not thought it out completely or at all for that matter. so dont you judge me lol

    ReplyDelete
  30. Judge Judge !! tut huh! just cause im a little older than you guys stop picking on your elders lol, have some respect and btw 44 is NOT that OLD lmao.

And yea Ang Ive just been to the Dentist lol, Ive still got 7 bottles to go through, will just have to tell meself on Saturday to walk past the Lucozade, but I just naturally stop and pile the packs in my trolley cant help myself, Im brainwashed. Take me to your master, Take me to your master.........

  31. Who needs energy drinks when you can just pound coffee and cigarettes?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Matt: I don't drink coffee and i don't smoke either, so the E drink is my only vice lol.

Angelique: Ok enough said I'm older you cant beat me on that one, no matter how hard I try :P

  33. I don't as a rule drink at all. Jus here and there that adds up to about twice a year lol I've never really drank wine but the vampire lover in me can't pass up trying this brand!
